Steampunk Hustle Award

Steampunk’s Hustle Award is a formal recognition of “hustle” awarded by the CEO and COO. I was nominated by Steampunk’s EVP and my Project Manager. Below is the text from my nomination.

John joined Steampunk in May of 2023 as a Disruption Designer. After an initial stint at CBP, he joined the new US Coast Guard delivery team to help transform and mature their Office of Data & Analytics. As the first full time member of this Coast Guard team, John assumed additional responsibilities outside his role to ensure the successful startup of this delivery effort. John immediately earned the trust and respect of a diverse group of Coast Guard stakeholders through 30+ discovery sessions and interviews with leaders across the agency. His vision for the Coast Guard led to the conceptualization, planning, and organization of a 9-hour multi-session Design Workshop in the Mosh Pit on 2 November. John’s consistent hard work and engagement on behalf of the Coast Guard team has been instrumental in fostering strong relationships and led to a request for him to co-facilitate a Design Workshop with a new group inside US Coast Guard. John went above and beyond to help prepare the session, while simultaneously balancing his ongoing delivery responsibilities. Additionally, he altered personal travel plans to prioritize the customer and went out of his way to be present for the workshop. John has distinguished himself as a leader, visionary, and professional for his team. Thank you John for the hustle and “customer first” approach, and we look forward to your continued and future Human-Centered Design (HCD) impact at US Coast Guard!
